Hangmen was founded in 2009 by Patrik Svensson, Stephen Mckenzie, Ulrika Douglas Alyhr and Kelvin Douglas. Hangmen is a creative studio, based in Stockholm, working for clients and on projects in the fields of fine art, architecture, design and fashion.

The original focus was on installing art exhibitions and making artworks. Currently we are responsible for pretty much all the exhibitions at Bonniers Konsthall, Millesgården, Artipelag and Spritmuseum as well as many other institutions and galleries. Whether working with Statens Konstråd, Stockholm Konst, Landstinget or directly with an artist we have produced many of the artworks dotted around Sweden. Over the years we have built up many tight relationships with artists including Bigert & Bergström, Miriam Bäckström and Jesper Nyrén.

After sealing a deal with Acne Studios in 2001 the company quickly expanded and developed in a new direction. Our background in the arts has meant that we are able to add valuable input into the creative process when working with the marketing and branding departments with in the fashion industry. We are now working with many of the major Swedish brands, including Acne, Arket and Filippa K.

In more recent times we are designing as well as producing and collaborating with clients from mood boards to prototyping to technical drawings to full production. Most notably the exhibition of Bertil Vallien at Spritmuseum, Arkitekturgalan 2019 and Filippa K window displays.

In 2014 hangmenProjects was opened in Hangmen’s original studio of 220m2 at Ringvägen, a combination of exhibition space and artist studios. With over 35 exhibitions in the first 4 years, with a focus on artists that have a relationship to Hangmen, it has quickly become a welcomed venue within the Swedish art scene.
